Is America ready for some glam? American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert has released the cover of his upcoming debut album and "glam" sums it up. "For Your Entertainment" will be released on Nov. 23.
Tuesday before heading to the "This Is It" movie premiere, Lambert posted on his Twitter page "Glam is back!"
And the cover is certainly glam. The cover features Lambert with blue hair (think Flock of Seagulls ) wearing a black fingerless glove (recalling Michael Jackson or Madonna), an air-brushed face (reminiscent of Olivia Newton-John in "Xanadu "), a "Purple Rain " inspired font; and a totally cosmic space background.
The cover is drawing a lot of attention online. Yahoo! Music described it as "a beauty shot snapped by Andy Warhol in some glitter-dusted private party room at Studio 54." More than 5,000 comments about the cover have been posted on the blog.
As compared to other second place Idol albums, the cover is a bit more out there wrote Entertainment Weekly , and which predicts eager fans will scoop up the disc. "Glambert nation collectively wipes its brow, catches its breath, and attempts to unlock its eyes from Adam's hypnotic gaze," while waiting for the release.
The Houston Chronicle detailed the cover: "Androgyny? Check. Fierceness? Check. Makeup and blue hair? Check." The site also reported that the album is said to include collaborations with Ryan Tedder, Linda Perry, Pink, Ferras, Rob Cavallo and Lady Gaga.
Lambert, whose star may be as big as any Idol, hopes that his brand of retro-70s pop resonates with the millions of Idol voters and others. He described his sound to Entertainment Weekly "as if a '70s time capsule blasted off into space and you're watching it through a holographic filter... That's my big vision."
Earlier this year in Rolling Stone magazine Lambert declared his sexual orientation, "I don't think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear that I'm gay." Though recently in a Details magazine photo spread he was photographed kissing and holding a nude female model. In an interview he said , "I am gay, but I like kissing women sometimes. Women are pretty. It doesn't mean I'm necessarily sleeping with them."
