Finding the perfect Halloween costume is often a tough task. But there are plenty of outfits out there and some are causing controversy this year.
A costume comprised of a mustachioed alien mask, an orange prison jumpsuit and, in some cases, a green card has some outraged.
Immigration activists have called for the “illegal alien” costume to be pulled. The costumes are "distasteful, mean spirited and ignorant of social stigmas and the current debate on immigration reform," according to Angelica Salas of the Coalition for Human Immigration Rights of Los Angeles.
"I can't tell you how sales picked up once the news got out," Morris Costumes Owner Philip Morris said. Morris hasn't had any negative feedback yet and continues to sell the illegal alien gear.
Target, Walgreens and several other national retailers pulled the plug on the costume. Morris says the costume isn't tacky, instead tongue-in-cheek.
"It's all in a sense of humor, we're looking at our own selves and laughing," Morris said.
The illegal alien costume isn't the only one causing a stir this Halloween season -- the Barakula Obama is as well.
Morris said he's shipped orders of the Barakula masks to "Saturday Night Live," David Letterman and Jay Leno.
So far the Barakula masks have not been pulled from any store shelves.
Michael Jackson costumes and Bernie Madoff masks are also top-sellers this season.
