They’re loading up for big savings. At Fort Mill’s Aim Right Gun Shop, customers got in line for a shot at tax free guns.
“Yeah, we’re quite busy, we’re quite busy, it’s a good thing,” says owner Jack Sheppard.
Sheppard says he’s expecting a 70 percent increase in businesses this weekend.
“Concealed carry guns, guns for personal protection, those are the best sellers,” he says.
It’s the second year South Carolina has offered a tax-free weekend on guns, bringing customers across the border for savings of up to nine percent.
These kinds of tax-free weekends do have their critics though. The strongest is not from gun control supporters, but from those against tax holidays.
John Ruoff, of South Carolina Fair Share said, “At a time when we’re laying off state employees… having this kind of drain on the state’s revenues is just irresponsible.”
Don’t tell that to people here though; they hope the tax free weekend is back again next year.
