CHARLOTTE, NC - Local law enforcement agencies from across Charlotte joined the Governor’s Highway Safety Program to kick off its “Booze It or Lose It: Operation Firecracker” campaign this morning.

GHSP Director Becky Wallace, Charlotte Police Chief Rodney Monroe and Michelle Armstrong, who lost her 17-year-old daughter as a result of an impaired driving crash, all spoke at the event.

The Fourth of July campaign began Monday, June 27, and continues through Monday, July 4. Additional checkpoints and stepped up patrols will be conducted across the state during the campaign.

Officers charged more than 1,200 North Carolina motorists with driving while impaired during the 2010 “Booze It & Lose It: Operation Firecracker” campaign. More than 4,600 stepped-up patrols and checkpoints were conducted.
