It's Summer Camp Sign Up TimeCHARLOTTE,NC- Yes, it's just March but now is the time for parents to think about summer camp. Parents like Jen Plym, mom of four know if you wait until summer, it's often too late. For the Plym family, there is dance and gymnastics camps for the girls and vacation bible school for all including the five year old twins. Plym says her kids get stir crazy and relying only on the pool isn't going to work. Plym says the internet has made the research and sign up for camps easier. Plym also heads up an internet blogging community of some ten thousand moms... she says summer camp is a hot topic- they are busy sharing tips, hints and experiences. But camp organizers are busy too. Sarah Sumner is the children's ministry director at Myers Park United Methodist Church known for its strong and popular vacation bible school. Sumner says applications are out, deadlines are set and much of the prep work is done. Sumner says four days of vacation bible school is the equivalent of 13 sundays in terms of time with the children, so they consider it a very important time. Plym says parents of young grade school children find the camp sign up experience the toughest as they are new to it. Cost of camps range from no cost vacation bible schools to nominal cost for some... others can cost as much as four hundred dollars for the week. Some have scholarships available on a first come first served basis.
