MONROE, NC- It's a big day for first-time home-buyer, Jessica Pfeil.

With Keller Williams’ realtor, Thomas Watson, by her side... she's closing on  home in Monroe. And she's doing it with little-to-no hassle because of Homes for Heroes.

With Watson's help, Pfeil says the process is, "more affordable. more doable."

Pfeil is a nuclear medicine tech at Carolinas Medical Center-Union.

She works with patients everyday, but she never considered herself a hero.

Pfeil works in healthcare, but Homes for Heroes also extends their services to firefighters, police officers, educators, first-responders, and active and retired military.

The foundation offers discounted lending fees, home inspections, and closing costs.

25 percent of the realtor's commission goes to the home buyer.

“I didn't really realize how much I saved until recently," said Pfeil.

Pfeil got this check for over $3,500. She says it gave her a big break.

"I still have money in my savings account."

Watson says Homes for Heroes follows the clients as long as they want to stay connected.

“We have several retail establishments that are offering discounts to our heroes. So, I'm going to give her a list of those providers and she'll be able to save money with them from now on," said Watson.

The foundation’s mission hits home for Watson. He was in law enforcement for 15 years and is a chaplain in the U.S. National Guard.

"In the military community, I'm a care-giver. In the same way as a realtor, I can give back to those who serve me and protect my family."

One hero at a time... he's giving back through home ownership.
