CHARLOTTE, NC- From borrowing missing ingredients, to selling stuff collecting dust in your garage… a new social media site connects you with people right down the street.

Tim Curran moved to Charlotte from Cleveland, Ohio a year ago.

“Four to five months into it, I still didn't know anybody and didn't know anywhere to go or what there was to do for nightlife or restaurants," said Curran.

That's why the web designer is launching Cup Of Sugr.

"Connecting with people from seventh grade or ancestors who you've never met...but why not connect with your neighbors that you live down the hall or down the street from," said Curran.

The website is free but you need a community ID to use it. The Southend Neighborhood just started using the site.

Association president Kristin Hodge says she likes the security aspect.

"Craigslist is great, but sometimes having a closed community is more comforting... especially when you're looking for someone like a potential roommate," said Hodge.

Hodge can post community events and users can borrow, buy or sell items.  There are also forums to ask questions like where's the best pizza place or doctor's office.

"I really think that Cup of Sugr provides a great tool and adds to the value for someone either moving into Southend or someone who's been here for a little while to really get integrated into the neighborhood," said Hodge.

The site can also be used on college campuses. Johnson C. Smith University is interested in using it for their dorms. Students could buy and sell text books and

post study groups and activities.

Curran wants to eventually allow businesses to advertise on a super local level.

"Instead of just throwing out an ad on a billboard, you're targeting people right around the corner," said Curran.

Southend is the first neighborhood to jump on board, but Curran hopes it expands across the Charlotte area.

Cup of Sugr also has aLooking For Work” section. you can post your resume or  baby sitting and lawn needs.
