CMPD Changes 911 PolicyCHARLOTTE, N.C.--Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say they have changed their dispatching policy, even though they believe it is almost impossible to rule out the potential for human error. This comes on the heels of a high-profile murder investigation in which a CMPD officer was dispatched to the wrong address. The policy now requires 911 dispatchers to confirm addresses during emergency calls. The police department reviewed their policy after Danielle Watson's body was found in south Charlotte six hours after her fiancé called 911 saying he thought she had been robbed at the Flying Biscuit Cafe. Officials say the dispatcher put the wrong address in the system causing the officer to respond to the wrong area. The dispatcher is on administrative leave. Police arrested 22-year-old Mark Cox and charged him with Watson's murder. |
