CHARLOTTE, N.C.--Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have arrested seven people at the Occupy Charlotte encampment.

Protesters were given until Monday afternoon to remove their tents from old city hall.

Captain Jeff Estes informed protesters that they are welcome to be at the site but they had to remove their tents by 2:30 p.m.

Several officers began taking down the tents after the deadline.

The seven people arrested are facing obstruction and impeding charges.

City Council approved new ordinances which give police officers the authority to evict or arrest people that are camping, living or sleeping on city property.
