Charlotte Area Midwife Arrested

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--A midwife is arrested and charged with practicing illegally.  Supporters say she did not do anything wrong.  Emily Medwin, who goes by Amy, is accused of practicing midwifery without a license. 

She is certified but North Carolina does not recognize her certification.  North Carolina Friends of Midwives is planning a march to call for a change in state law.

FOX Charlotte spoke with Brooke Atkinson a member of the North Carolina Friends of Midwives.  Atkinson says a state lawmaker is putting together a bill that would change North Carolina's position on Midwives.  Opponents say home births are dangerous for the mother and baby.
