Local Woman Needs Votes To Help Her Group Called "Soul Widows"
CHARLOTTE, NC-A local woman who lost her husband in Afghanistan and turned her grief into helping others is now up for a national award. Elizabeth Woods started the organization Soul Widows and now her dream to help others on a broader stage could be realized with your help. We first told you about Elizabeth Woods back in July and the organization she started called Soul Widows which helps other women going through the grief of losing a husband. "I've been able to see the gifts out of all the pain and there's more good to come." Her husband, Brian Woods, an Army Special Forces Medic, was killed on a mission in Afghanistan a year and a half ago. Through that loss, she began to write, started a website, and connected with other widows. The group Soul Widows is steadily growing. "It gives me a feeling of joy to know that I can influence in a positive way through what I've gone through and it didn't go to waste, all the hard work that I've gone through, that I still work through." Soul Widows is now one of five, (2,000 groups applied) up for a life improvement award from Ikea. The company is offering $100,000 to the organization that gets the most votes. Elizabeth has partnered with a therapist, the goal is to open a grief and loss center to reach other widows. "People who have experienced any kind of grief or loss can come, we'll have retreats where we can help everyone we can." If you would like to vote for Soul Widows you can do it starting Monday December 13th. |
