Mayor Anthony Foxx Not Running for N.C. GovernorCHARLOTTE, N.C.--Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx will not run for Governor of North Carolina. The Mayor told FOX Charlotte he considered running after Gov. Bev Perdue announced that she would not seek re-election. A spokesperson at the mayor's office said Foxx wants to concentrate on Charlotte. Foxx released this statement, “Over the past few days I have given serious consideration to a run for Governor of North Carolina. Given the unusual circumstances and short time, such a run would have required more focus on a statewide campaign than on my young family and many local issues of importance to me and so many Charlotte residents. Therefore, I have decided to forgo a statewide race this election cycle, and will continue my efforts to build a brighter future for our city.” Charlotte's former mayor, Pat McCrory, is a front runner for the Republican nomination. Lt. Governor Walter Dalton has already announced his bid for governor. |
