Marit Bjorgen won the women's 30-kilometer race. Kristin Stormer Steira and Therese Johaug were second and third as Norwegians swept the top three positions. Vittoz and Piller Cottrer led the race during the last 10 kilometers with Northug, who was ranked first overall, nipping at their heels. The victory put Northug 383 points ahead of second-placed Lukas Bauer of the Czech Republic in the overall ranking and within reach of the World Cup title with five events to go. Bauer finished 17th on Saturday. "The World Cup is what you want to win most, apart from the world championship and Tour de Ski, so this is really great," Northug told Norwegian national broadcaster NRK. Bjorgen finished in 1 hour, 24 minutes, 10.8 seconds, sprinting to the finish line in a dead heat with Steira and Johaug. Steira finished in 1:24:12, 1.2 seconds behind Bjorgen, while Johaug completed the cross-country race 6.8 seconds later, in 1:24:18.8. Fourth-placed Charlotte Kalla of Sweden was neck and neck with the Norwegians until a fall in the middle of the race. Bjorgen, who was ranked fourth overall, called the Norwegian sweep "unbelievable and fun for the team." Overall World Cup leader Justyna Kowalczyk of Poland did not compete. |
