BBB: American Shingle Bankruptcy Bad News for CustomersCHARLOTTE, NC - Hundreds of homeowners in Charlotte and across the country say they gave American Shingle thousands of dollars for roof work that was never done, and they’re now realizing they probably won’t see that money ever again. The Better Business Bureau says the company filed Chapter 7 Bankruptcy and lists debts of up to $50 million. Secured creditors are expected to get money back, but homeowners aren’t expected to be as lucky.
“We still don’t have our money from them,” said Julie Taylor who lives in South Charlotte. Taylor talked with FOX Charlotte in front of her home while a crew from another company repaired the storm damage on her roof. All American Roofing, Inc. is offering to give a discount to customers who say American Shingle took their money, without delivering on the promise of repairs.
Taylor says because American Shingle already cashed her insurance check, it puts her in a financial bind. “The economy is horrible right now, and knowing that this is coming out of pocket when we were not originally budgeting for this is a problem. I am very thankful for All American to actually help us out a little bit with that,” she said.
The Secret Service and Attorneys General from several states are investigating American Shingle.
