CHARLOTTE, N.C. --  After 10 years and 1500 American lives lost, the exit strategy for the country's longest war seems to be clear.  President Barack Obama says he will start bringing home U.S. troops from Afghanistan, with 10,000 leaving the war front by the end of this summer. Another 23,000 will be home by 2012, and his target date to end all combat operations is 2014.

Pierce Sawyer, who's son Timothy just returned from serving as a marine in Afghanistan for the past few months, worries the hard fought gains made over the years, may be lost if the Afghan people aren't ready to govern themselves.  "I think any father would - they want their son to do something that matters, they want their life to count for something," said Sawyer. "My son has sacrificed over there tremendously."

While the President says American troops like Timothy have stabilized Afghanistan, Sawyer worries the Taliban may try to retake the country once the military leaves. Depending on which troops return home this year and in 2012, Sawyer's son Timothy, may return for a second deployment.
