Charlotte, NC - Nearly 100 members of the Charlotte Catholic Diocese pray, “Hail Mary Mother of God..."

They gathered Thursday night at the Duke Energy Theater in Uptown Charlotte to pray a Rosary of Reparations.

David Hains is the Charlotte Diocese Director of Communications, “It's an insult, a moral insult to people of prayer & peace."

He's talking about Paul Rudnik's The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told. The play has been around since the late 90's, even performed off Broadway.

It depicts the biblical story of creation with gay couple Adam & Steve and the immaculate conception with lesbians Jane & Mable.

Hains says, “These people are not here because this play depicts gay people. These people are here because this play blasphemes the Bible."

Those in attendance for opening night say there's no disrespect.

Janice Covington is an East Charlotte resident. She says, “This is just a comedy, it's just a play."

Artistic Director Glenn Griffin says he doesn't understand the controversy, “I really think that a lot of people are also in the audience in support and to say they have a right to put on this show."

The Queen City Theatre Company, is privately funded. It's production does not include nudity.

Back outside the Charlotte Diocese calls for the play to stop.

Hains says, “It's not right & these people are speaking up for justice."

The play runs through Feb. 18th and tickets are still available.

The directors say come and watch before you make a judgment.

The members of the Catholic Diocese say they'll be praying until it's through.
