CHARLOTTE, NC – Jarrod, Ziggy, and Michael make up the band “The Division Red.”

“A little bit of rock and roll, a little bit of punk, a little bit of garage alternative influence in there,” says band vocalist Ziggy Sloke.

The guys have been playing at local venues as a hobby for a few years and not making a ton of money.

“If we sold, over six months, like $250 worth of CD’s it wouldn't make that big of a difference for us, split up among three ways,” says drummer Michael Hernon.

So they’ve decided to donate the profits from their latest CD to college scholarships for kids in the Philippines.

That $250 will pay for a semester of classes for students like Weslee at colleges like University of the Assumption.

“For what is a little money for us, goes a long way for somebody else, and the idea that something that we do for fun can end up feeding or schooling somebody, in a country far from here is, I think, an important thing,” Sloke says.

The scholarships are provided by the Philippine Aid Society.

Director Tim Troutman says it's something that's needed in the Southeast Asian country.

“They simply don't have the money, the resources to do it, so we're trying to identify students who are ambitious, they want to go through college but they don't have the means to do it,” Troutman says.

“You know we're a little older, and I guess the time to have rock star dreams would have been a little while back,” says guitarist Jarrod Starnes.

So they’ll keep rocking for fun and keep putting the money towards a good cause.
