CHARLOTTE, NC - In this post-bank bailout economy, getting the cash to start a new business is tougher than ever. But, what if you could find people who would like to see your business come to life and are willing to pitch in a few bucks to make it happen?

That’s the idea behind Kickstarter.com. The site helps entrepreneurs get the funds they need to start a business. You set a funding goal; a target date to get the funding by; and you can offer donors incentives, like free samples to thank them for sponsoring the idea.

Charlotte resident Umar Riggs has a proposal on the site for “The Real Juice Truck.” It’s a mobile fresh fruit and smoothie shop that would travel to neighborhoods around the city.

“One of our goals is to support local farmers, so we’ll have in-season fruits and vegetables and our goal is to really have a community-based business,” Riggs said.

In order to get on the site, your business idea or artistic project has to be approved by the site’s panel. Then, the funding goal has to be reached in the specific time frame, and the project has to be funded in full or all the money goes back to the donors.
